Restore your tooth with a permanent crown
A crown is a permanent covering that sits over the natural tooth structure to restore a tooth that was cracked, decayed, or had endodontic treatment (root canal).
It is permanently fixed to provide long-term functionality:
- to improve alignment
- protect damaged tooth
- enhance the shape and colour of existing tooth
- strengthen tooth that has been weakened by infection or decay
The crown covers the entire surface of the tooth above the gum line, and provides structural integrity to the tooth so it can function like it is supposed to. You may need crowns if you broke your tooth or if you have large cavities that prevent you from chewing food properly. Once you restore the tooth with a dental crown, you will be able to chew and bite just as you did before the tooth was damaged.
The design of the crown has a significant impact on the way that your smile looks. At Rainbow Dental, we pay special attention to both the aesthetics and restorative aspects of dental crown treatment. All porcelain crowns are metal free and provide the best cosmetic appearance. At Rainbow Dental at Sydney Olympic Park our Dentist will discuss which type of crown is most suitable for your teeth.
Bridges are permanent fixtures that are used to replace one or many missing teeth. A bridge is anchored by crowns on each end. The anchor-crowns act as a support structure that holds the bridge in place.
If you’re missing one or more tooth, the remaining teeth can drift out of position. This may result in changes in the bite, difficulties in chewing food, and even cause gum diseases and more tooth loss. As soon as you lose a tooth, consult a dentist to explore the possibility of fixing a bridge to reclaim functionality and to protect other teeth.
A crown on a bridge requires at least two visits to the dentist. During the first visit, we remove the decay, prepare the tooth for the crowns or bridge, and fix the temporary crown. In a subsequent visit, the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is cemented into place.
